AVOID THE WATER POLICE… AND BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR

It is important to realize that any water municipality has many factors that determines it’s water delivery schedule. One very important factor here in the Southwest is peak water use.  This can be defined by the hour, day and month that the greatest water demand is needed.  This is very important in the Southwest because our water supplies are very limited.  So while a city may have enough water to service all of its customers, it may not have it at the right time.  Be a good neighbor and share our shortage!

City outdoor watering restrictions now in effect

Seasonal outdoor watering restrictions in the city of Santa Fe took effect Thursday.

Watering is prohibited between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily. Residents can water any day they choose, but watering is limited to no more than three times a week.

“A good rule of thumb is once on the weekend, twice during the week and no more than three times total,” a city news release said.

Violators can be fined up to $200. To report a violation, call the city’s Water Waste Hotline at 995-4222.

Among other water-use rules in the city code: Outdoor swimming pools must be covered when not in use; washing of vehicles at residences is limited to once a month per vehicle and must be done with a hose equipped with a “positive shut-off nozzle”; using a hose or power washer to clean sidewalks, driveways or other hard surfaces is prohibited; water from landscape irrigation cannot flow onto hard surfaces or neighboring properties; and turf grass sod or grass seed mixes can’t contain more than 25 percent Kentucky bluegrass.
