Lawn Alternatives

Something there is that doesn’t love a lawn, that wants it replaced with something more productive, less polluting, less wasteful. Whether we want to admit it or not, the era of the “Great American Lawn” has peaked. Turf has important uses, but we use it too much as a society.

Have you considered the many alternatives to a conventional lawn?

Manicured grass requires too many inputs (money, water, gasoline, fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides, labor). Lawns create huge problems for existing water supplies in the form of an unholy host of pollutants. It’s time to look into alternatives like native grasses and other less-thirsty plant material. Fake lawns (plastic grass) even make sense compared to the real thing in certain situations. Whether you want more garden colors, fresh food, patio space, or more room to play sports, we can help. Our culture’s conversion from the Great American Lawn is coming soon to an ecological property near you.
